KOMPAS.com – PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir spoke about the regulatory plan to increase the number of foreign players for League 1 clubs in the 2024-2025 season.
Erick Thohir said this matter had not yet been decided and there would be a decision soon in the next few days.
“We haven’t (decided regarding the addition of foreign players) yet, in the next one or two days,” said Erick Thohir to the media crew after the 2024 PSSI Ordinary Congress in Jakarta, Monday (10/6/2024), as quoted from Between.
He said this was related to the plan to add two foreign players so that there are eight players who are allowed to play for League 1 clubs in the 2024-2025 season.

Previously, in the 2023-2024 League 1 season, each competing team was allowed to use six foreign players, consisting of five European players and one Asian.
Now, PSSI plans to increase the quota of foreign players for League 1 next season by two players so that the total number of players allowed is eight.
Erick said that his party gave the league organizers and clubs the opportunity to carry out evaluations.
Moreover, said Erick, there are new regulations from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) regarding increasing the quota for foreign players in Asian competitions.

“We invite (league organizers and clubs to carry out an evaluation). The important thing is that we support it,” he said.
Erick emphasized that the most important thing is how leagues and clubs must carry out transformation like PSSI which also encourages transformation in provincial associations (asprov).
