The Puerto Rican judokas María Pérez and Adrián Gandía were certified this Sunday as qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee reported.
With these athletes, the Puerto Rican delegation reaches 32 members, divided into 12 sports. The combat disciplines bring eight athletes to the delegation.
Copur reported that both athletes qualified by the continental quota criterion in their respective divisions.
Pérez will go to his third Olympic Games since his participation in Rio 2016. Gandía was also present in Tokyo 2020. Both won a fight in Tokyo 2020 and fell in their second rounds to eventual medalists of those Games.

Puerto Rican judo has been present in the Olympics uninterruptedly since the Los Angeles 1984 edition.
On the other hand, women’s beach volleyball was left out of the Olympic Games this Sunday after falling in the semifinals against Canada in the Norceca Pre-Olympic that is played in Mexico.
Also left out was the Puerto Rican men’s team, which fell in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
María González and Allanis Navas fell 21-17 and 21-19 against the Canadian team in the Pre-Olympic, which only grants one Olympic ticket per branch.
Athletics and men’s 5×5 basketball are other Puerto Rican sports that are still in the Olympic campaign.
The athletics classifications are defined on June 30 by ranking. Puerto Rican basketball has hosted the Pre-Olympic since July 2 with one ticket available.
