Archery Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee revealed the identities of the athletes making up the Canadian team on Friday. Both archers will make their Olympic debut.

Chénier, 29, from Laval, lost to Kristine Esebua in the final of the Pan-American continental qualifiers in April. She had qualified for the Olympic recurve event.

Archery Canada previously said Esebua, a four-time Olympian for Georgia who immigrated to Canada in 2019, was ineligible to represent the country in Paris.

Although this will be her first Olympic Games, Chénier has extensive experience in this type of event. She has participated in three editions of the Pan American Games, namely Toronto 2015, Lima 2019 and Santiago 2023, the Canadian Olympic Committee said in a press release.

“I’m super excited to have been named to my first Olympic team,” Chénier said in the COC press release.

“It’s been a lot of hard work and perseverance over the past decade and it’s paying off. I can’t wait to proudly wear the Maple Leaf and be part of such an amazing team, and also give it my all during the competition.”

Peters, 27, won the silver medal in the men’s individual recurve event at the 2023 World Archery Championships. It was Canada’s best result in the event.

“It’s crazy, it’s the culmination of all the work I’ve done and the challenges I’ve overcome throughout my career. Although it’s just another step in my career, it’s an honour,” Peters said.

By qualifying both a male and a female athlete, Canada will also participate in the mixed team event in Paris.

The archery events at the Olympic Games will be held from July 25 to August 4.
