Racing Club’s Youthful Máximo Paredes Makes Debut on first team Bench

The list of 23 summoned that Racing announced, for this Thursday’s match before Lanús, left a surprise: the presence of the youthful Máximo Paredes. The 19-year-old player made his debut on a list of players and will also be on the substitutes’ bench, after acting in the Reserve this semester.

An internal midfielder with good technique, Paredes on Monday began training with Gustavo Costas’ squad, already with the Selectivo licensed after being eliminated from the Proyección Cup after losing to Defensa y Justicia in the round of 16. Given Juan Nardoni’s physical problems (muscle overload) and the absence of Lolo Miranda because he will leave Racing, Costas made a positive evaluation of Paredes and observed in him a good alternative as a replacement option.

“He is a midfielder who can play on the right or left. He is right-footed, with a physical display that makes it easier for him to go back and forth. He has a good punch and reaches the goal a lot. In the Reserve’s last game he ended up playing as a winger on the right because of his dynamics. But he is more internal. Last year he was in the Fifth Division. And it went from lowest to highest,” Andrés Lettera, general coordinator of amateur football, told this portal.

Prior to playing with Lanús, the youthful Paredes is continuing in the Racing Reserve

Born on February 6, 2005 in Concepción de Uruguay, Entre Ríos, Paredes arrived at the Racing Juniors in 2023, coming from Santamarina de Tandil. And this year he had a lot of continuity in the Reserve led by Juan Vita in different schemes. Almost always, as an internal midfielder next to Santino Vera. What will be his future? It will be necessary to see if Costas decides to take him to the preseason with the Primera in Paraguay. Or if he decides to return to the Selective, he will begin the recess tasks on the same day as the First: the 27th of this month. For now, in the event that Paredes plays for Fortaleza, he will be the first youth that Costas will make his debut in the main team so far in his third cycle at the head of the team. For the Reserve match against Halcón, David González, Ignacio Galván and Tobías Rubio had come down from the Primera. Of these three players, the last two mentioned will go to the bench.

As for expected absences, of course, there are Gabriel Arias and Juan Fernando Quintero. Both, with the Chilean and Colombian national teams, respectively, ahead of the Copa América. Regarding Nardoni, his withdrawal is due to the fact that he has not yet recovered from overloads in the semitendinosus hamstrings and femoral biceps of his right leg. That annoyance prevented the former Unión from completing the match against Deportivo Riestra. And it disaffected him from the Argentine Sub 23. In any case, he will most likely return to the team led by Javier Mascherano ahead of the Olympic Games that will take place in Paris, France. They will be played between July 26 and August 11.
