The Spaniards Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, recent winner of Roland Garros, will participate in the Paris Olympic Games (July 26 – August 11), the Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) announced this Wednesday in Barcelona, while Paula Badosa has had to give up the appointment.

The tennis tournament in the French capital will be held from July 27 to August 4 on the same clay courts as Roland Garros, a tournament that Nadal has won 14 times. The Mallorcan, who returned to the competition in mid-April, was called up despite his 264th place in the ATP ranking after 16 months almost without playing due to injuries.

In addition to Alcaraz (second in the ATP ranking) and Nadal, the other men selected are Pablo Carreño, Alejando Davidovich and Marcel Granollers (No. 2 in the ATP ranking in doubles), announced the coach of the men’s team, David Ferrer.

Additionally, Nadal and Alcaraz could also participate in the men’s doubles event, a wish that the young man from Murcia has previously expressed.

Among the women, Sara Sorribes and Cristina Bucsa stand out, announced Anabel Medina, coach of the women’s team. Paula Badosa, far behind in the WTA ranking due to her injuries in recent years, has had to give up participating in the event, even though she could have used her protected ranking to go to Paris.

“In the case of Paula, she does not enter due to her current ranking, she should use her protected ranking (…) but she has two protected rankings left for the rest of the year, and in addition, the Olympic Games do not distribute points, it was a very difficult for her,” Medina explained.
