Red Bull Racing to Release Major Upgrade Package for RB20 Before Summer Break: Can They Keep Up with McLaren?

Red Bull Racing plans to release a major upgrade package for the RB20 before the summer break. Max Verstappen managed to win the past two races, but McLaren now seems to have the fastest package. After the win in Spain, Verstappen expressed his concerns about the current speed of the RB20 and, according to De Telegraaf, those concerns were taken very seriously within the team.

The 2024 season is in an exciting phase, with McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari to a lesser extent starting to close the gap to Red Bull Racing. Reigning champion Verstappen managed to win in Canada in changeable circumstances and last Sunday in Barcelona the Dutchman also took victory, despite McLaren having the fastest package.

Worries Verstappen

Verstappen was clear about the current status of the team after the race in Spain. For example, he urged the team to improve at Viaplay. “I have been worried for a while, because we always want to be the fastest and of course we are not at the moment. And we have to work hard to improve that again. Today they were faster and better on the tires. Those are two very important things,” he said.

Red Bull responds by pushing forward updates

In response, the Austrian team is reportedly working hard behind the scenes to make improvements. This weekend there will be racing in Austria and the following week in Silverstone. There will be no race the following weekend, July 13 and 14, and extra hours will be worked in Milton Keynes to have the new update package ready before the summer break.
