Red Sox Rally to Secure Victory with Devers and Hamilton Homers

Rafael Devers and David Hamilton both hit two-run homers for the Red Sox, who have won 10 of their last 12 games. They are seven games above .500 with a season-high 43-36 record.

“They feel good,” said Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who added that it was his team’s best victory this season. It feels like we could do damage at any time. We’ll see where it takes us.”

The Blue Jays, for their part, lost a seventh game in a row. This is their longest winless streak since September 2019.

Kenley Jansen (3-1) didn’t give up a score in the ninth to earn the victory.

Rafaela hit a grounder at the expense of reliever Zach Pop (0-2) towards Spencer Horwitz, who had difficulty taking the ball. Rafaela was thus able to get to first base. An illegal feint by Pop then sent him to second.

Duran’s single then allowed him to score, sliding to the plate to beat a throw from George Springer.

“It was the first time I ended the game with a point,” Duran said. We pulled back and responded. We never gave up. We did everything the right way today and kept things really simple.”

The Blue Jays looked in control when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a long three-run ball over the green monster at Fenway Park during a five-run seventh inning that gave them a 6-2 lead.

But when starter Chris Bassitt was replaced by Nate Pearson in the eighth, the latter gave up a two-run homer to Hamilton to allow the Red Sox to close the gap.

Tim Mayza took over for Pearson with two outs and gave Devers a single, then a double to Tyler O’Neill. Romy Gonzalez pushed them to the plate to tie the game.

Bassitt allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings, while Red Sox starter Tanner Houck allowed three runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings.
