Regensburg to Host Men’s European Baseball Championship in 2027

The European Baseball and Softball Federation (WBSC Europe) has confirmed that Regensburg has been awarded the contract to host the Men’s European Baseball Championship in 2027.

The German Baseball Association (DBV) is cooperating with the local Guggenberger Legionnaires and the Bavarian Baseball and Softball Association to organize the tournament. The Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Joachim Herrmann, is acting as patron. The Women’s Softball European Championships will also be held in Stuttgart in Germany in the same year.

“Hosting the 2027 European Championships in Regensburg is another milestone in the implementation of our future plan,” DBV President Jürgen Elsishans is quoted as saying in a press release. “We are optimistic that these top-class events, coupled with many other measures, will significantly increase the visibility of our sports in Germany in the year before the Olympic Games.”

Regensburg has successfully hosted major international tournaments in the past, including the preliminary round of the 2009 World Cup and the qualifying tournaments for the World Baseball Classic in 2012 and 2022. The Armin Wolf Arena offers the conditions for a top-level event. “With the necessary lead time until 2027, we want to make the European Championship an event that surpasses all previous ones in Regensburg,” promises Armin Zimmermann, CEO of Legionäre AG.

This year, Regensburg will host the U18 European Baseball Championship from July 8th to 14th, in which twelve nations will participate. In addition, the U12 European Baseball Championship will take place from July 2nd to 6th in Paderborn at the Untouchables.
