Reggie Jackson Deja Vu: From NBA Champion to Hornets for Cash

Like a sense of deja vu for Reggie Jackson. The Nuggets veteran, 2023 NBA champion, was transferred to the Hornets with 3 unprotected second rounds of the Draft, for money.

And this is not the first time something like this has happened to him.

Indeed, Jackson was already transferred to the Hornets in February 2023, at the time it was by the Clippers. The Hornets had cut him in the process, and he had then signed in Denver to play veterans and win his ring. Bis repetita this Thursday for the native of Pordenone in Italy, who had just activated his player-option to the tune of 5.25 million dollars to stay in the Rockies, but his leaders decided otherwise and sent him to see in North Carolina if they were there.

Denver, which is bumping up against the second apron and still has Kentavious Caldwell-Pope out there as a pending free agent, gets some significant savings moving off of Jackson’s $5.25 million salary for next season.

For the Nuggets, the goal is simple: save money.

By getting rid of Reggie Jackson’s contract for money, that’s more than $5 million that no longer weighs on the franchise’s payroll, which is doing everything possible to extend Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who declined his player option for more than 15 grand, in the hope of getting a better contract and potentially signing up for a long-term project. Although Calvin Booth has said that KCP is not necessarily indispensable to Denver, there is no doubt that the desire should be to keep a key element of the only title in the history of the Pépites.

As for Reggie Jackson, it’s not yet clear what the Hornets plan to do with him, but his experience and his NBA title could work in his favor on a young and fiery team that is continuing its rebuild and could well benefit from the wise advice of the bespectacled man. But if it turns out that the Hornets have already planned to get rid of the player and will cut him a second time, in which case this paragraph would be absolutely useless.

Reggie Jackson was quietly settled with his family, not giving a damn about this second round of the Draft and he learned via Twitter that he was transferred from Denver to Charlotte, life’s a bitch right.
