«Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa Garden, via Negri, where there used to be a basketball court, now remains a ramshackle concrete rectangle. In a densely populated neighborhood, the playground should be filled every afternoon with girls and boys playing basketball or volleyball, perhaps surrounded by grandmothers, grandfathers and grandchildren. Let’s start redoing the concrete, marking the lines, baskets and net. Let’s continue by involving associations and volunteers who can animate the space, let’s also put in some video cameras to discourage acts of vandalism or other. We take care of the greenery and the structures, we make the residents responsible. Let’s try to change these places, let’s make them alive, we could start a new season, go back to smiling and playing”.

Almost exactly two years later, tomorrow, Thursday 6 June, at the Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa Garden located in via Giovanni Negri, in Piacenza, there will be the event that will truly revive that playground. A party that aims to involve the neighborhood community with a specific focus on young people. Starting from 2.30 pm there will be the opportunity to inaugurate the renovated basketball court in the garden, in the presence of representatives of all the city’s basketball sports clubs specially invited by the municipal administration. The ribbon cutting is scheduled for 3.30 pm, followed by other sports activities such as boxing, capoeira, skateboarding and breakdancing with DJ sets & rap and live painting until 6.30 pm.
