From the late 19th century, he was a big name in baseball in western Paris. Stade français Paris has just announced the reopening of its baseball section at the start of the 2024 school year. An announcement which comes just over a month before the Paris 2024 Olympics and more than 60 years since the closure of this division.

“Having the ‘Stade français’ brand is an honor

“The project was born from the passion for baseball of the three founders” affirms, cheerfully, to Paris news, Vincent Danna, (re)-founder of the baseball section with two partners. “We are reconnecting with our origins, but also with the 16th, which contributed to developing baseball in France,” he explains.

The Parisian club has, in fact, “welcomed the New York Giants and the Chicago White Sox en 1914“, explains Vincent Danna. He cites other names like “the Racing Club de France or Spalding. » The three enthusiasts already have a great knowledge of the world of batting. Vincent Danna has already participated in creating two baseball clubs in the west of Paris (Duffy Ducks and Ranelagh). “Having the ‘Stade français’ brand is an honor,” notes Vincent Danna.

“We are expecting between 100 and 150 people”

But why was there no more baseball at the Stade Français? “After the Second World War, many Americans left France,” he explains. An exodus which led to a lack of interest in the white ball with red strings. We can legitimately wonder if there will be people interested in France. Baseball not even being on the program JO Paris 2024 (while he was present in Tokyo in 2021 and will be in Los Angeles in 2028): “We already have 50 pre-registrations, that’s much more than our business plan,” rejoices the enthusiast.

“We are expecting between 100 and 150 people,” he adds. All age categories are open for registration, from under six to senior divisionsboth men and women “because baseball is a mixed sport,” concludes Vincent Danna.

And if baseball doesn’t appeal to you, its lighter variants like the softball and baseball 5 sections are also open for registration. The club should have several grounds, at the Plaine de Bagatelle, in the 16th arrondissement or even at the Pheasantry, in Saint-Cloud Park.
