Reviving Vinding Badminton VSF: A Success Story of Growth and Development

Vinding Badminton VSF, a club that many years ago was on everyone’s lips in Vejle, the place where people went in the 80s to play badminton at a high level, is now back on the map after many years.

For the past 9 years or so, they have managed to get the club up and running again.

There was talk of a closure of youth as there was no coach left in 2015, they did not compete in the team tournament and the training team was close to closing.

From here, a build-up began, a chairman was found, a coach was found, few but focused local forces were found who distributed the roles that could be filled, youth started again, and you moved from very few youth players to 50- 60 players in one season.

2019 was a turning point, Jesper Bach, a badminton-mad talent and firebrand originating from the Skive region (Glyngøre) moves to Mølholm, Vejle and wants to get involved in the local badminton club.

The chairman agrees that a Miniton team will be started, which turns out to be a good match in terms of time and the right coaching talent, and it will be a great success.

With this comes the parents hall, parents who either play or are former players who quickly inquire about badminton for adults.

In 2020, on top of the Post-Covid19 period, we will start adult training, it will be a success, and from here it has picked up speed until today.

In the last 2-3 years, they have managed to:

– to raise the club to Vejle’s largest club in terms of members, we expect a minimum of 250 members next season.

– from no senior division to being the municipality’s highest ranked, we play in the Danish series in the coming season, and with more than 10 tournament teams.

– from having 4-5 teams in the youth tournament to us expecting to have 14-15 teams in the coming season.

– to have some of the highest ranked U11 players nationally.

For clubs, it is generally difficult to get and retain girls, but the club has managed to have an almost 50/50 gender distribution.

The club has been and still is focused on, in the understanding of “girls-breeding-girls”, running training sessions for girls in youth continuously over the seasons, in order to attract. A job that constantly and pro actively requires focus to maintain.

Last weekend, the club held their biggest point-giving youth event to date, the Danske Bank Cup, in 4 halls and with 319 participants. An achievement that seemed unreal only 1 year ago, but with a soft start a few years ago where the club ran DGI Beginner tournaments, some smaller point-giving events, we saw ourselves ready to fly for the next step which proceeded successfully in the Gauerslund halls and the Hallen at Kirkebakkeskolen, Bredballe since Vinding’s own halls were booked for the EP election.

Winning Badminton VSF will develop, and this must and must cost, which is why the club has been very focused on sponsorship agreements for the past several years.

For the next 2 seasons, the club has closed sponsorship agreements for almost a quarter of a million…. In addition, they have applied for and received funds for almost DKK 100,000.

All this has come with zealots, a burning group of now 14 men in the badminton committee as well as a horde of other volunteers who make a HUGE DIFFERENCE and which means that the club is quickly raised in level on all levels.

The club’s head coach Jesper Bach won the “Make a Difference” award this year at Vejle Municipality’s Sports Gala, which is a very good image of what people can achieve, both with the work he puts in, but that you can play well together.

Not only does it require zealots, but it also requires a clear delegation policy to get a boost in projects that for others would rest quietly on one or a few shoulders. The club has managed to find solutions to this, and with great help throughout the development years from DGI Badminton to understand the order of priority in the work.

They have helped to understand the work of building a club from a few to more, to understand that with simple, focused and well-described tasks you can get through the desired development much better. DGI Badminton continues to be a major partner in our work to develop.

The newest Vinding Badminton VSF is working on is to start a talent track in Badminton in Vejle Municipality, Future Vejle Badminton, in collaboration with both DGI Badminton, Badminton Denmark and Elite Vejle.

The club wants to retain talents in the municipality, to have a setup, a structure and a business plan that will help ALL clubs in Vejle Municipality to develop the talents together and with support and cooperation from Vejle Municipality.
