RIETI – Put a canoe and a glider in the main city square and it’s immediately a Sports Festival. In fact, the Rieti Sport Festival has the power to change the city.
Sports village – The stations
From 13 to 16 June the historic center of Rieti is transformed into a large open-air sports field thanks to the ninth edition of the central Italian sports festival. While waiting for the opening ceremony on Thursday 13 June at 5pm in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, the fixed stations and sports fields of the large Sports Village are under construction: a basketball court, mini volleyball and rugby field, tatami for martial arts , area equipped for Aerial, TRX, Pole Dance, Super Jump, Pilates, Zumba, Jujitsu, BJJ, Kudo, Muay Thai, dance, rhythmic gymnastics, competition mats for fencing, grass areas for Foot golf, demonstration spaces for golf, routes for enduro mini motorbikes, mini cycling circuits and bike trials, archer stations, Viking fencing, historical fencing, darts game station, ping pong tables, trekking station, BLSD maneuver demonstration.
Majestic with a wingspan of approximately 15 metres, with the highest values of aerodynamic efficiency, a glider from the Rieti Aeroclub, organizer of the Rieti Gliding World Championships in 2027, will be on display. From the sky to the waters, in the heart of Sabine city also a canoe with a rowing ergometer that faithfully reproduces the action of rowing by the Asd Ternana Canottaggio.
Sports village – Associations and federations
Numerous local sports federations and associations will be present in the sports village, including: fencing Rieti, Safety&Defence Planet Fitness Club Rieti, Golf Club Rieti Central Italy, Asd Muppets Footgolf Club, Asd Volley 4Strade, Asd Figf Lazio Darts Game, Aeroclub Rieti, Reate cycling team Asd Accademia del Soccorso – Blsd maneuver demonstration, Motoclub Ammotora, table tennis organized by Fitet, canoe test with simulator organized by Asd Ternana Rowing, Terminillo Trekking 360°, Gym Art artistic gymnastics, Strength and Freedom rhythmic gymnastics, Fijlkam with Judo and Karate athletes, Salsa School and more Caribbean dance Rieti. The ninth edition confirms itself as a great social and sporting attraction that gives space and voice to all those who practice and love sport, in its highest values of inclusion and cohesion. The Sports Village area, which will come alive every day from 5pm to midnight, will also be equipped with food trucks.
Sports Talk: the prizes, the plaques, the guests, the VIPs, the champions
Each day will be dedicated to a theme: from athletics, the queen of sports, to the round table on sustainability in sport, from sport for the territory to the gliding world championships.
In the sports talk space, guests and champions will alternate over the 4 days: opening Rana Reider (coach Marcell Jacobs), Gelindo Bordin, Francesco Panetta, Stefano Tilli, Andrew Howe and the future projects of Student Athletics Andrea Milardi will be presented with the technical director Alberto Milardi. To conclude, the RSF Lifetime Achievement Award will be awarded to Eleonora Lo Bianco, multiple volleyball champion and liaison with Gianfranco Zola and Stefano Meloccaro.
On the second day, in addition to recognizing Claudio Ponzani, the first President in the history of Rieti to preside over a national FISSW federation, which will also go to the Paris Olympics, the traditional RSF Awards will be awarded to Riccardo Visconti as the best A1 prospect and basketball digital boy and Silvia Marziali Air Force medical officer, best Serie A basketball referee and Gian Maria Gabbiani, automotive champion.
Guests: Massimo Cortinovis Head of Digital Strategies Lega Basket SERIE A, Cristiana Pace (Motorsport engineer, innovator and expert in sustainability in sport) Andrea Santini, manager of the Olympic Stadium and the Foro Italico Park.
On the third day, awards will be given to the sports clubs of the province that have achieved significant results in the season, the athletes of the Special Olympics of Rieti, gold medalists in Berlin in the unified 5-a-side football World Games, Antonello Carnassale and Leonardo Vellucci will be awarded, followed by big screen in the square to follow the Italy-Albania match. Saturday will also be the day-event for basketball with the champion Riccardo Visconti available on the Sports Village court to play with the kids from 10 am. However, every day there will be basketball games on the designated court.
On the last day, space for the blues of martial arts, a large representation of FIJLKAM athletes, will give a show and following presentation of the Gliding World Championships in Rieti in 2027 organized by the Rieti Aeroclub and padel in solidarity with many VIPs convened by the ” coach” Stefano Meloccaro: Gilles Rocca, Pietro Sermonti Angelo Mangiante, Leonardo Metalli, Jimmy Ghione, Paolo Canè, Marcelo Fuentes, Nando Orsi, Gabriele Corsi, Pierluigi Pardo, Fabio Quagliarella. The proceeds of the solidarity tournament will be donated to Fortitudo Baskin Rieti, regional vice champion, created to carry out an inclusive basketball project, with a team on the pitch made up of disabled and able-bodied people.
Fortitudo Baskin Rieti will be on the field in the match on June 15th at 7pm against Trasimeno Baskin.
Also on Sunday 16 June, the Rescue Academy, in a fixed location at the Sports Village for Blsd maneuvers, will launch a new digital project as a national preview.
At the end of the Festival, the Order of Physiotherapists of Lazio will also promote the campaign against the illegal practice of the profession. During the sporting-cultural event, various events will be presented such as the Rieti stage of the national Enduro Championship organized by the Ammotora Club, the Rieti stage of the K42 international off-road marathon, promoted by Moresport ASD and the young rowing champion Sebastiano Renzi will be awarded.
During the 4 days there will be the opportunity for all sports enthusiasts of all ages to try all sports disciplines for free. At the RSF Sports Village anything can happen.

Even the Sky journalist Stefano Meloccaro, co-creator of the Central Italy Sports Festival, underlined the tough exterior of President Battisti who, despite the critical issues (8 including a pandemic), never stopped and always put sport back at the centre: «Let’s continue to keep the name of Rieti high, let’s give voice and visibility to this city of sport, Rieti’s sporting vocation is there, the desire to have fun and bring joy to the city as well and who knows whether sport can really become a driving force for the territories ».
