Rietmolen Church to be Repurposed: Village Residents Consulted for New Purpose

Now that the Rietmolen church will no longer be used for church services from 2026, the house of worship will be given a new purpose. Residents of the village want to give the building a second life and do so in consultation with all Rietmolen residents and former residents. A core group has taken the initiative for a walk-in afternoon on Friday, July 5. During the walk-in afternoon, interested parties are introduced to the ideas that exist.

The church was officially designated as a national monument in 1999. With a striking tower that is often compared to a minaret. For years, there was not a single home available in Rietmolen, which, according to Anke te Lintelo of the core group, caused many fellow villagers to move elsewhere. “Old Rietmolen residents often still have warm feelings for this beautiful village and this characteristic building. That is why we think it is important to also involve this group in our ideas.”

The walk-in afternoon, which is held in the church, lasts from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and there are two central moments at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. Registration is not required.
