Robert Lewandowski issues warning to Kylian Mbappé

Mbappé broke his nose in the first European Championship duel with Austria and will most likely wear a specially made mask on Tuesday when the Équipe Tricolore face Poland.

In 2015, when he was still playing for FC Bayern Munich, Lewandowski also wore a protective mask after breaking his nose and jaw. The striker collided with Dortmund goalkeeper Mitch Langerak in the DFB Cup semi-final.

Lewandowski said during a press conference: “When I had to wear a mask myself, it wasn’t pleasant. It’s pretty annoying. I had problems especially in the penalty area: I didn’t react, I couldn’t see anything, my field of vision was restricted. It may only be milliseconds, but something like that can slow a player down. It is definitely a challenge, an unpleasant one. But of course the health of a player is the most important thing. There are a lot of emotions in a tournament like this. Everyone wants to play – whatever the cost. But I can understand the difficulties that lie ahead.”
