Elton John sells his clothes on eBay
Well, the rock star is giving his fans the chance to own some of his eye-catching outfits.
The 77-year-old musician is selling hundreds of items from his personal closet on eBay, with the proceeds from the sale going to his Elton John AIDS Foundation.
Gucci jackets, Versace gowns and custom Prada shoes are among the many high-end items now being offered on the online auction site. Cheaper items include baseball caps and historic concert T-shirts.
In keeping with Pride Month, the 10-day sale kicked off on Thursday and all profits will go to the foundation John founded in 1992 to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030.
According to a press release posted online, the starting price for items is $26.60, which is “a nod to the Peachtree Road address of Elton John’s previous Atlanta home.”
In an interview with Christie’s auction house in 2023, John said that he lived there for 30 years and became a “serious collector” of art and objects.
Some additional items will be available on a “Buy It Now” basis.
In the press release for the eBay “Rocket Man Resale,” John said, “It has been especially valuable to me to give new life to my closet treasures from my wardrobe. For decades, I have donated my closet treasures to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
“This Pride Month, I’m excited to share my Atlanta treasure trove on eBay, hoping these items will inspire you to express your unique personality and bring you the same joy that has come to me. Whether you’re looking for high-end luxury or something more quiet, there’s a perfect piece for everyone. Better yet, every dollar goes to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s work to end LGBTQ+ discrimination.”
John and his husband, David Furnish, launched a live-streamed shopping event on eBay Live on Thursday to kick off the sale.
Other celebrities are also selling off some personal items for the cause, including Furnish, fashion designer Donatella Versace and singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile.
