Tears, and a lot of emotions. In the documentary Roger Federer’s last 12 daysavailable from Thursday June 20 on Prime Video, British director Asif Kapadia films the intimacy of the Swiss champion, and his last competition, the Laver Cup 2022, surrounded by his greatest opponents on the courts.

From the preparation of the speech announcing his retirement, emotion is present in the voice of Roger Federer, champion with 20 Grand Slam titles, well accompanied by his wife Mirka and his children. “We had incredible times on the circuit”remembers the one that Roger Federer met for the first time in Sydney, twenty-four years ago.

A few tears also flowed when the retirement announcement was published, on the cheeks of the man who spent 310 weeks at the top of the world rankings, but also on the faces of his parents, Lynette and Robert. “It’s an emotional day, but this adventure has been very exciting,” for Roger Federer’s mother. “A fantastic period indeed”added the father, not far from his son with very red eyes.

The documentary also reveals behind the scenes of Roger Federer’s last tournament, the Laver Cup 2022. Within the European team, the Swiss maestro was surrounded by his “best enemies” on the courts: Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. The opportunity to discover some confidences from the native of Basel about his opponents, in particular his first impressions not really rave about Novak Djokovic, after facing him in Monte-Carlo in 2006.

The Serbian record hunter, the king of the Spanish Roland-Garros, all speak with great emotion of the end of Roger Federer’s career, the departure of a tennis giant. The Swiss has put away his rackets for good, “tired but happy, happy to have made an impact on the game”. With this “unique moment to end” an exceptional career – in his own words – Roger Federer made a successful exit.
