Royals Defeat Metros in LNB Super League Showdown

SANTIAGO. Sterling Manley and Nazhiah Carter led the Reales de La Vega to a hard-fought 101-93 victory over the Metros de Santiago in the regular series match of the LNB Super League held this Wednesday at the Cibao Oscar Gobaira Arena.

With just over two minutes left and with a five-point lead, Víctor Martínez hit a three-pointer that sealed the game, leaving 1:59 on the clock for the home team to try to come back.

The sets ended 27-35, 25-21, 24-17 and 25-20 in favor of the Royals, who maintained their undefeated record of 4-0.

Carter scored 25 points and Manley 21 for the Royals, who also had the offensive contribution of Quade Green, with 19 points; Eric Williams Jr had 14.

For the Metros, who put their record at 1-2 and fell for the second time at home, Kyler Edwards was the best with 22 points, followed by Davion Mintz, with 20 points, and Sir Jabari Rice contributed 18 points.

The Metros did not maintain the 17 points (27-10) they scored in the first quarter, including a 7-0 run with 5:15 left to play.

To erase the deficit, the Royals implemented a 2-1-2 zone that dismantled the home team’s offense, leading to an 8-0 run (32-35) and a 14-5 rally that gave them a 36-35 lead with 6:21 left in the second quarter.

The Metros organized themselves and regained the advantage to go into halftime with a four-point lead 56-52. The first half was 35-27 and the second favored the visitors 25-21.

SAILORS 72, LIONS 67

PUERTO PLATA.- The Puerto Plata Mariners achieved their first victory of the 2024 campaign of the LNB Super League by defeating the Leones de Santo Domingo 72-67, in a match held at the Fabio Rafael González sports center.

Brayan de la Cruz was the main scorer for the Mariners (1-3) by scoring 14 points in a performance that included 5 rebounds. Jonathan Bello had 10 points and Joshua Dambreville contributed 9 with 8 rebounds and 4 assists.

For the Lions (2-2), who saw their winning streak stopped at two, Emmitt Holt scored 18 points and 7 boards, Brachon Griffin contributed 12 points, while Yeison Rivera and Ángel Puello finished with 10 each.

At one point in the last quarter the Mariners found themselves down by up to 7 points, however, those led by José “Maita” Mercedes relied on a great defense to stop the Lions and be able to react to the offense.

A layup that De La Cruz achieved put the Puerto Plata team ahead 64-63 with 3:34 left. With 37 seconds, Elías Solimán also got a layup that made the score 71-65. At that moment the quarter was 23-11. The Lions were not a threat in the rest of the match.

A Holt layup with 6:11 of the third period put the Lions up 43-36, but the Mariners completed a 9-2 rally on a Dambreville 3-pointer and tied it at 45-45 with 2:03. Four free throws by Luis López helped the reds stay up 54-48 after three periods.

The sets concluded 16-22, 18-13, 14-19 and 24-13 for the Mariners.

This Thursday there is no activity. On Friday, from 8:00 p.m., the Indios receive the Titanes del Distrito Nacional at the Mario Ortega Sports Center in San Francisco de Macorís, and the Cañeros will visit the Soles del Este at the Rolando Ramírez Sports Center in San Pedro de Macoris.
