A total of 300 athletes at the start, including youth and absolute competitions. After the youth races, all eyes are on the 9 km up&down test where the Kenyans of Run2gether dominated. Yegon Robert Kiplangat set off immediately and reached the top of the GPM with a record time of 22’08”; 37″ ahead of teammate Kenduiywo Shadrack Wipkurui and almost 2′ over Francesco Bongio (La Recastello Radici Group) from Morbegna.
On the descent the positions do not change and Kiplangat wins, pulverizing the race record now brought to 35’50” (previous 37’40”). Wipkurui was second in 38’09” and Bongio third in 38’35”. The top five is completed by Tommaso Caneva (GP Talamona40’47”) and Francesco Della Torre (La Recastello40’57”).
In the pink competition Elisa Sortini (Atl. Alta Valtellina) demonstrates that she has recovered from the efforts of the European Championships. Also for her a solo race with passage to the GPM in 26’26” with a 45″ advantage over her national teammate Alice Gaggi (La Recastello Radici Group). Sortini pushes hard, sets the new downhill record (partial time of 15’53”) and crosses the finish line in 42’18” just 4” from the record she herself holds.
Followed by Gaggi in 45’12” and the Atletica Alta Valtellina trio Giulia Compagnoni (45’28”), Elisa Compagnoni (45’42”) and Gaia Bertolini (48’10”). Also worth mentioning is the participation of 2 joelettes who, led by Dappertutto volunteers, covered the initial and final part of the race.
