The Moscow Federation decides to boycott the Olympic tournament MOSCOW (RUSSIA) (ITALPRESS) – There will be no Russian judoka at the Paris Games. It is the Moscow Federation itself that announces that none of the four athletes invited by the IOC – but under the status of neutrals – will take part in the Olympic tournament. “Out of 17 athletes who would be eligible, the IOC has invited only 4 and the rest should stay at home – says Sergey Soloveichik, president of the Russian Judo Federation – Given this situation, we have unanimously decided that our national team will not accept these humiliating terms and will not compete in the Paris Games.”
Soloveichik recalls that “we are one of the strongest Federations and national teams in the world, we have said from the beginning that we will not compromise and we will not sign any declaration that discredits the politics of our country. I am convinced that such actions by the IOC ruin confidence in the Olympic movement”.
