This Friday, the Russian Judo Federation made the decision not to send representatives to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Olympic judo tournament of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled between Friday July 26 and Sunday August 11, will take place without any Russian representative. This Friday, via a press release, the National Federation of this discipline announced its decision not to send any representative to the French capital. In judo, restrictions have been put in place regarding the number of participants allowed. The Russian Judo Federation denounces this and even considers that these are “humiliating conditions”: “In this situation, the Presidium of the Russian Judo Federation made a unanimous decision: the Russian national judo team will not accept humiliating conditions and will not participate in the Paris Games with the composition proposed by the officials of the International Olympic Committee. » However, no less than 17 Russian judokas managed to validate their qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Teddy Riner could well take advantage of it

Despite everything, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), for its part, had decided to authorize only four of them to participate in these Olympic Games, according to its third list of athletes reinstated in the various Olympic competitions. Consequently, in the +100 kg category, Teddy Riner, double Olympic champion, will have one less weight opponent, as the Russian Inal Tasoev, world champion in 2023, is none other than world number two in this same category. Their confrontation could have taken place in the quarter-finals or semi-finals. After the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, all Russian and Belarusian athletes were banned from all world sport. Very recently, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that they would be gradually reintegrated, excluding team events, under a neutral banner and under particularly strict conditions.
