The Olympic Games in Paris will take place without Russian judoka. As the national association announced, the four athletes approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as neutral athletes will not compete in Paris. “The Russian JudoThe Russian national team will not accept humiliating conditions and will not participate in the games in Paris with the composition proposed by officials of the International Olympic Committee,” said a statement on the Russian Judo Federation’s website. The Federation’s presidium made this decision unanimously.

Of the 17 candidates, the IOC only gave clearance for Paris to the men Valery Yendowitzkij (+100 kg) and Makhmadbek Makhmadbekov (73 kg) and the women Elis Startzewa (+78 kg) and Dali Liluashvili (63 kg). “We fulfilled the conditions set by the IOC, as long as they were acceptable to us, and first of all declared that we would not make a deal with our conscience and would not sign any declarations that discredit the politics of our country,” the association’s statement said.

Because of the war of aggression against Ukraine, athletes from Russia and Belarus are only allowed to compete in the Olympic Games under certain conditions and as neutral athletes.
