San Diego FC Announces Signing of Mexican Striker Hirving Lozano for 2025 MLS Season

A club with participation in Major League Soccer (MLS) scheduled for the 2025 season, San Diego FC announced its first impactful figure on the squad. It will be Mexican striker Hirving Lozano, who spent time in European football in countries such as the Netherlands (PSV) and Italy, where he played for Napoli.

The 28-year-old athlete is one of three names that the California-based club will have in its squad in a business model above the salary cap, the Designated Player. Another who could arrive in these same conditions is the multi-champion Spanish defender Sergio Ramos.

Because the team is not yet in competition, Lozano will only be effectively integrated into the work of his new team at the beginning of next year. This way, he will serve at least another six months of his current contract with PSV.

Having trained at Pachuca, Hirving Lozano experienced constant growth after joining the professional squad. Right after the great cycle in 2016/2017 where he scored 18 goals in 37 games, he headed to the Dutch club and experienced two overwhelming seasons. With 74 matches with 40 goals, 17 passes to his teammates, the opportunity for a new change of scenery arose. This time, for Napoli.

In the 2020/2021 biennium, Lozano experienced his most inspired period wearing the Italian club’s shirt. However, the lesser impact in the following years ended up taking him back to PSV last year. In 2023/2024, he recorded statistics in the order of 33 matches, six goals and three assists.

The good times he had in Europe helped Chucky Lozano to be a constant figure in the Mexico team as well. Since his first appearance in Tri, he has played 70 matches with 18 goals and seven assists between friendlies, continental tournaments and two editions of the World Cup: 2018 and 2022.
