São Paulo Dominates Brazilian Judo Championship for Youth Under 18

The State of São Paulo ended the first day of the Judo Championship among Brazilian youth under 18 years old in first place for the number of gold medals. And the women’s team took care of it with four champions: Juliana Yamazaki, in weight up to 44 kg, Aline Santos (-57 kg), Livia Rezende (-63 kg) and Carolina Marcon (-70 kg). In the men’s competition, Fernando Mitsuda (-60 kg) also won the podium for the Paulista Federation (FPJudô). The event will be held at the Miécimo da Silva Sports Center in Rio de Janeiro.

Second place in the gold medal standings at the inaugural Brazilian U-18 Championship was the state of Minas Gerais. With a balance between the two suits, the men were proclaimed champions with José Neves Filho (-66 kg) and Thiago Carvalho (-81 kg). Among the women, Clarice Ribeiro (-48 kg) and Olivia Oliveira (+70 kg) triumphed, making a total of four. Rio de Janeiro has the most podiums with Víctor Silva (-55 kg) and Taylor Alves (-90 kg) in third place.

Five other states won the start of the Brazilian Under-18 Championship. Among the men, Diego Costa from Paraiba won the gold medal in -50 kg, Elias Moreira Neto from Mato Grosso do Sul in -73 kg and Luis Oliveira from Sergipe in +90 kg. In the women’s race, Amazonas won with Ana Sena in the -40 kg category, and Distrito Federal with Nicole Márquez in the -52 kg category. At the end of the matches, the city of São Paulo was proclaimed absolute champion for women and Rio de Janeiro for men.

Collecting all the medals, the Paulista Judo Federation team won four gold medals, one silver and five bronze in the women’s category, occupying the highest position on the podium. “I had four very tough fights and I tried to dedicate myself and concentrate as much as possible. In the final I went for the gold and, although I was tired, I tried to stay strong and focused. This was the last fight and I have to give my best, which makes me very happy, because I am fighting for the World Championship,” said Alin Santos (-57 kg).

Minas Gerais in 2nd place, Distrito Federal in 3rd place, Amazonas in 4th place and Rio de Janeiro in 5th place completed the podium of the Brazilian U18 women’s competition by states. In the men’s competition, the Rio de Janeiro State Judo Federation (FJERJ) leads the medal table. The host of the event won two gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals. In the men’s competition, the states of Minas Gerais (2nd), São Paulo (3rd), Mato Grosso do Sul (4th) and Paraíba (5th) climbed onto the podium.

“It was a very good feeling, because starting in 2019 I will try to win the title of two-time champion of Brazil. It is a very great achievement, I am very happy to win the championship at home.
