Schaller also jumps into the final from the 3-meter board

After the final of the 1-meter competition, Austria’s diver Nikolaj Schaller also made it into the final from the 3-meter board at the European Championships in Belgrade. The 23-year-old finished twelfth and last among the qualifiers on Saturday with 339.75 points.

Schaller had to worry about his place in the final until the last jump. “It was a real battle today. After a solid start, I wobbled a bit on the third and fourth jumps, then had to concentrate fully and give it my all and at the end I was worried until the last jumper whether it would work out. Twelfth place is nerve-racking. I’m overjoyed that I managed it and that it worked out in the end,” he said afterwards.

The Frenchman Gwendal Bisch won the qualification with 407.80 points. The final starts on Saturday afternoon at 4:40 p.m. Schaller is confident about the competition: “The cards will be reshuffled in the final.”
