A selfie from German fans is making its way around the football world: The group finds a mobile phone on the toilet during a European Championship party. They take a photo and hand the device over. “What a country,” Scottish fans write about the honest finders – and start looking for them. With success.

The German-Scottish fan friendship at the home European Championship is something very special. One of the best stories took place in Cologne – and brings the nations even closer together. It all began with a selfie taken by five German fans. A seemingly normal snapshot during a European Championship party. But the cell phone used to take the photo does not belong to the Cologne fans. It belongs to Kieran, a Scot who traveled to Cologne for the match against Switzerland (1:1).

At the big football party, he forgot his mobile phone in the toilet – and probably didn’t expect that he would ever find it again in the hustle and bustle of thousands of fans. But then everything changed: The Cologne fans found the mobile phone and handed it over. Kieran got his mobile phone back the next day – with the funny selfie of the group.

The Scottish fans of the “Tartan Army” then published the story, complete with a picture, on “X”: “Kieran left his phone in an outhouse. These Germany fans found it, took a selfie and then gave it to the police. He has his phone back now. What a country. Can we find these fans?”

“Caro, you are wanted!”

The post has already been viewed 4.6 million times. And now the internet search for the honest finders has been successful. One of them is Caro, who spoke to the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” about the campaign. A school friend had seen the appeal and wrote to her: “Caro, you are wanted!” On Friday she created an account and was overwhelmed by the fuss. “I’m getting so many messages now, from all sides,” she told the paper.

She has now also written back to the “X” account of the “Tartan Army”: “For German-Scottish friendship,” said the young woman from Cologne. “We had great experiences with Scottish fans at the game.”

And the story doesn’t seem to be over yet: In another post, the Scottish fans wrote: “The heroes who found Kieran’s phone and took this selfie have been found!” Kieran is not with “X”, but his wife is. Caro commented on the post: “Cool that we found each other. My friends and I would love to talk to you about this crazy story!”
