In the summer of 2023, Scott Banks moved on loan from Crystal Palace to FC St. Pauli, was barely able to play due to a cruciate ligament injury, but has now been signed permanently by the Bundesliga newcomer. Both sides agreed to keep the transfer terms confidential.

“It was my express wish to stay at FC St. Pauli. I have the feeling that I am not finished here yet and at the same time I am in the right place for the next step in my development,” Bank is quoted as saying in a club statement, while sporting director Andreas Bornemann added: “Scott already indicated at the beginning of last season that he can make our game even more unpredictable with his skills. He has also integrated very well into the team. The way Scott worked persistently to return to the pitch after his serious injury also deserves recognition.”

Banks fought back

The 22-year-old Scot only played four times in the 2nd Bundesliga last season because he tore his cruciate ligament on the third matchday in Braunschweig (1:1). The winger fought his way back, showed his great potential in training and made an impressive comeback in the last game of the season with the assist for the 2:1 winning goal that gave the Kiezkickers the championship title in the lower house.

The offensive talent, whom sporting director Andreas Bornemann praised a year ago as “a very good overall package” that “further expands our offensive options”, can therefore prove himself in the Bundesliga after his parent club Crystal Palace sold him. Banks joined the Premier League club in 2020 and was loaned to Dunfermline Athletic FC, Bradford City and St. Pauli.
