The Styrian fought his way into the semifinals with victories against Jaume Munar, Luciano Darderi and Alex Michelsen. There he ended the run of the British surprise man Paul Jubb and was particularly impressive with his serve, scoring 15 aces.
After his breakthrough year in 2023, Ofner is still struggling this year; reaching the round of 16 in Geneva and two victories at the French Open were the highlights.
His final opponent Tabilo made a rapid rise in 2024. The 27-year-old has moved into the top 20 by reaching the final in Mallorca. For Tabilo, it is already the third final this year; he won the title in Auckland and lost in the final in Santiago de Chile.
The two have not yet played against each other at ATP level. However, the Chilean Ofner is not completely unknown and the result should give Ofner hope: in the qualification for the Australian Open 2023, the Styrian won in two sets.
