Setback for Jonas Vingegaard: No Olympics and Uncertain for Tour de France

It has already been quite a disastrous year for Jonas Vingegaard. Of course, this has everything to do with his crash in the Tour of the Basque Country.

No Olympics

As a result, the Dane is still highly uncertain for the Tour de France, but he can certainly forget one appointment – partly because of that crash. After all, Vingegaard was not selected by Denmark for the Olympic Games. After all, Mikkel Bjerg was awarded the last spot.

He also rides the time trial, Mads Pedersen is the absolute leader for the road race. Mattias Skjelmose and Michael Morkov will also travel to Paris. However, Vingegaard had indicated that he would like to participate in the Olympic Games.

Although he did say a while ago that he would understand a non-selection. “But I wouldn’t be surprised if I wasn’t selected, because the course is not really my thing,” he said.

Tour also still uncertain

Nevertheless, this will still feel like a downer, given that the Olympic Games only take place once every four years. The next time – in 2028 – Vingegaard will be 32 years old. And then, as mentioned, it remains to be seen whether the Tour will succeed.

“He is doing his utmost, that’s all he can do after such a heavy crash. We have to see how it evolves. We have won the Tour in the past two years, and no one can take that away from us. But of course we also want to win it this year, as well as next year, sports director Griesscha Niermann still remained on the surface about that.
