Indonesia will entertain Irak in continuation 2026 World Cup Qualification. Shaun Evans appointed by the AFC to lead the match.
Indonesia vs Iraq was held at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, Thursday (6/6/2024). The match kicks off at 16.00 WIB.
Evans is not a foreign referee for Indonesia. He led the Indonesia vs South Korea match in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup. Indonesia won via penalty shootout after playing a 2-2 draw for 120 minutes.
Evans’ performance received praise from Indonesian netizens following his good leadership against South Korea. He ruled out South Korea’s first goal for offside, and also gave South Korea’s Lee Young-jun a red card for a hard foul on Justin Hubner.
Evans He has been involved in leading League 1 matches three times. One thing that attracted attention was when he was the referee for the Persija Jakarta vs Persib Bandung match in 2017.
In the match which took place in the rain that soaked Solo’s Manahan Stadium, Evans annulled Persib’s goal scored by Ezechiel N’Douassel in the 28th minute. His header bounced into the goal net, but Evans and the assistant referee judged that the ball had not crossed the goal line.
Evans made a brave decision by sending off Persib defender, Vladimir Vujovic, in the 81st minute. Vujovic received a second yellow card after protesting to Evans.
Persib, who were disappointed with the referee’s decision, finally walked out of the match when they were still trailing 0-1. Evans blew the long whistle in the 83rd minute which stopped the match.
At the international level, Shaun Evans also caused controversy in the round of 16 of the 2018 Asian Games. At that time, Indonesia clashed with the United Arab Emirates at the Wibawa Mukti Stadium.
Evans gave the UAE two penalties which were converted into goals by Zayed Alameri. Indonesia was able to hold a 2-2 draw before finally being eliminated in a penalty shootout.
