The Georgian center Gio Shermadini will continue in La Laguna Tenerife next season, after the Canary Islands club made effective this Monday the continuity option that appeared in his relationship with the team, with which he will complete his sixth season.
The interior, included in the ‘Best Quintet’ of the last Endesa League, averaged 12 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists last season for an average rating of 17.7 rating per game.
With the aurinegra shirt, Shermadini has won a Basketball Champions League and two Intercontinental Cups and has been runner-up in the Copa del Rey in Badalona 2023. In addition, he was elected MVP of the ACB in two seasons during his time on the island -2020-21 and 2022-23- and became the player with the most monthly MVPs -13, nine of them as a Canarista- and weekly MVPs -22, 18 of them as aurinegro- accumulated in the history of the highest national competition.
The Georgian joined the Tenerife team in the summer of 2019, and since then he has played a total of 258 official matches across all competitions: 163 in the Endesa League, ten in the Copa del Rey, two in the Endesa Super Cup, 79 in the BCL and four in the Intercontinental Cup.
He has also become the player with the highest rating in the history of the elite (3,300 points); his all-time leading rebounder (921 catches) and second leading scorer (2,431 points). The Canarista center’s statistics sheet also includes, among other merits, having become the top scorer in the history of the entire BCL (1,132 points).
