Shohei Ohtani Breaks Dodgers Record with 25th Homer in Victory Over White Sox

Shohei Ohtani homered for a Los Angeles Dodgers record in a 4-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night.

Ohtani hit his 25th homer of the season in the first inning off Erick Fedde to lead the charge, giving him his 10th straight game with at least one RBI. This is an organization record since this statistic began to be recorded in 1920. He thus beat Roy Campanella (1955), Augie Galan (1944) and Eddie Brown (1924).

The Japanese has hit the long ball in 8 of his last 10 matches.

Gavin Stone also distinguished himself by pitching a complete game for the shutout and he is the first Dodgers rookie to do so since Hyun-Jin Ryu in 2013. Furthermore, the last player in the organization to achieve this feat arms is Walker Buehler, April 25, 2022.

Stone allowed just four hits and struck out a career-high seven batters without issuing a walk.

It’s the sixth time this season he’s pitched at least until the seventh inning in 15 starts, but the first time he’s gone into the eighth.

Austin Barnes scored on a Teoscar Hernandez sacrifice fly in the third inning. Ohtani and Austin Barnes then completed the score on a double by Freddie Freeman during the same inning.

The Dodgers swept the three-game series against the Mets.

Jays-Sox: the rain is acting up

The final game of the series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox was postponed due to bad weather Wednesday evening at Fenway Park.

The score was 0-0 when the match was interrupted at the start of the second inning, after an out. Davis Schneider of the Blue Jays was at first base and Danny Jansen was about to enter the batter’s box.

The game will be resumed on August 26 as part of a doubleheader, at the point where it was interrupted.

The Blue Jays and the Red Sox had divided the honors of the first two games of the series.
