Slovenia-Serbia: undecided poster between two teams who still dream of continuing their Euro

Dragan Stojkovic’s Serbia would be well inspired to stock up on points this Thursday against Slovenia, in Group C, in Munich this Thursday (3 p.m., BeIN Sports). With the prospect of qualifying for the round of 16 of the Euro, the team led by the former Marseille player (1990-1994), beaten by England (1-0) on Sunday, would risk a lot of challenging Denmark in the 3rd and final match on Tuesday, without even a point in his pocket.

In theory, Serbia, which is playing the first Euro in its history as an independent nation in its own right, seems to be able to compete for 2nd place in the group with Denmark, which for its part is up against England in Frankfurt this Thursday (6 p.m.).

Tensions in the Serbian group

Against Gareth Southgate’s “Three Lions” at the end of last week, the Eagles started their game badly and were surprised in the first quarter of an hour by a goal from Bellingham, quicker with a header past Zivkovic. Subsequently, they managed to rebalance the debates, but without managing to come back to the score.

The Serbian coach has had to work to deal with tensions within his group in recent days. Captain in ordinary times, Tadic, the left winger of Fenerbahçe, 35 years old, was publicly upset at only having entered the game against England. Stojkovic must also manage the enmity between Tadic and Mitrovic (Al-Hilal), another star striker. By adding Vlahovic, the Juventus center forward, Serbia, technically superior to Slovenia, does not lack offensive arguments.

For its part, the Slovenia of coach Matjaz Kek, clinical in front of the opposing goal, likes nothing more than to leave the ball to the opposing team to better surprise them. And the point earned against Denmark on Sunday (1-1) will allow Slovenia to apply this option from the start in Munich this Thursday. Followed by several major European clubs, striker Benjamin Sesko (28 caps, 11 goals), 20 years old, is just waiting to reveal himself in the context of the Euro, and to confirm the 14 goals scored in favor of RB Leipzig this season. At the very end, Slovenia relies on a world-class goalkeeper, Jan Oblak (31), who keeps the goals for Atlético de Madrid. In any case, the meeting promises to be balanced between the two teams in search of a presence in the final phase.
