Spain qualifies by defeating Italy

Spain qualified for the round of 16 of Euro 2024 by winning the match against Italy on the 2nd day of Group B.

Italy and Spain crossed swords this Thursday evening, on the lawn of the Veltins-Arena stadium, in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, during the 2nd day of Group B of EURO 2024. A fairly important match for the two teams who were able to validate their good entry into the competition by thus seizing the head of the group but also pocketing the precious qualification for the round of 16, before the final duel next week respectively against to Croatia and Albania. And it’s done for Spain (1-0).

In the first period, Spain imposed its game by dominating the debates but without finding the fault. The score was still goalless between the two teams at the break. La Roja nevertheless completely asphyxiated the Squadra Azzurra in this start. The Spanish winger, Nico Williams, really hurt the Italian full-backs with numerous breakthroughs (2nd, 10th, 36th) on the left side in the first half. The Nazionale could have collapsed without a huge Gianluigi Donnarumma who had already made a total of four saves to save an Italy which was struggling to build and break free.

La Roja rewarded for its efforts

In the second act, La Roja continued to dominate and impose its game in the Italian camp. The Nazionale could only make do with simple clearances to find Scamacca wide. On a powerful mid-range cross from Nico Williams, Morata deflected the ball with his head. Donnarumma managed to touch it with his fingertips but the Italian defender, Riccardo Calafiori, countered it in his own cages (55th, 1-0). Served on the left side, Nico Williams cuts back into the axis and rolls in a huge right-footed shot which crashes into Donnarumma’s bar (70th).

With this result, Spain still remains undefeated in the competition and at the top of group B. Better yet, La Roja officially pockets its ticket for the round of 16 of Euro 2024. In the other match of group B, Albania defeated Croatia (2-2) yesterday. The duel between Italians and Croats promises to be tempting.
