The selection in Spain
SPAIN.- The national basketball team traveled from the community of Pinto to Alicante where they will continue their preparation with a view to their participation in the Pre-Olympic tournament that will take place in Piraeus, Greece.
The members of the national team boarded a train on Wednesday morning that took them to the city on a trip that lasted two and a half hours.
Point guard Andrés Feliz did not make the trip because he was attending the awards ceremony organized by the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB). Feliz was awarded International Player of the Year in Spain’s ACB League.
The squad did not exhaust a training session once in the municipality of Alicante, where it will be until this coming Saturday when it is scheduled to travel to Greece, the official headquarters of the playoffs that will be from July 2 to 7.
On Friday, they will face the Spanish national team, ranked second in the world by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), in their last preparation match.
The Creoles won their first three friendly matches against Norway, Ivory Coast and Portugal in Pinto, which belongs to the Community of Madrid.
The players Jean Montero, Chris Duarte, Andres Feliz, Angel Nunez, Luis Santos, Adris de Leon, Danny Carbuccia, Antonio Pena, Eddy Polanco, Yeikson Montero, Adonys Henriquez, Miguel Simon, the captain Victor Liz and Eloy Vargas will remain in Spain.
The team led by Néstor (Ché) García will begin its participation in the official tournament against Egypt on July 2, starting at 11:30 a.m. Dominican Republic time, in a match corresponding to Group B of the tournament.
On Wednesday 3rd the match will be against the host team, Greece, at 2:00 pm.
Both matches will be carried throughout the Dominican Republic by CDN Deportes.
The two best teams from Group B will meet in the semifinals with the two from Group A formed by Slovenia, New Zealand and Croatia.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games begin on Friday, July 26, and conclude on Sunday, August 11.
