Sports and Inclusion Festival 2024: Celebrating Unity Through Sports

Three days to celebrate it sport e inclusion. The “project” presented at Castello GiussoSports and Inclusion Festival 2024“, an event promoted by the departments of Social Policies and Sport of the Municipality of Vico Equense and by UISP Napoli, with the collaboration of the Guarantor of the Rights of People with Disabilities and sponsored by the regional committees CONI, CIP Campania, and by the EISI (Body Italian Inclusive Sports), is scheduled for 21, 22 and 23 June.

The event aims to promote and organize meetings between young people, associations and institutions, developing the good example of sport as a life practice, education for being together, as a lifestyle and prevention. The number of associations involved is impressive: well 18 associations which they will be able to channel into recreational and sporting activities beyond 500 kids.

We will leave Friday 21 June with the opening ceremony of the event. An Olympic torch relay is planned, which will start from the atrium of the Ancient Town Hall, following a route through the city center and finally arriving in Piazzale Siani, where the brazier will be lit. The official start ceremony of the event will continue with the raising of the flag and the national anthem. Among the torchbearers there will be illustrious athletes, boys and girls with disabilities and athletes.

Then go ahead for all disciplines. Judo, game dance, and paralympic dance in Piazzale Siani, then dragon boat and tennis in Marina di Aequa. The next day (June 22nd) inclusive bowls, artistic gymnastics, baskin, skating, aerial art, modern and contemporary dance in Piazzale Siani, then archery and ancient games in the gardens of the SS Institute. Trinity and Paradise. On the final day of June 23, space for tennis, sitting volleyball, open dance and football lessons in Piazzale Siani then archery in the gardens of the SS Institute. Trinità and Paradiso, before the final ceremony and exhibition of the Paralympic activities, with awards, delivery of participation certificates and plaques in memory of the event.

The mayor and the entire municipal administration, the Guarantor of the rights of people with disabilities of the city of Vico Equense, participated in the presentation of the project Emilia Terracciano and the prof. Bartolomeo Arpino who explained the technical part of the project. Other interventions were those of Angelo Gabriele Aielloour fellow citizen, paracanoe champion; Giusy I err of the Asd Gabry Dance Paralympic dance champion; Rocco de IccoPresident of ASD Noived (Non- and visually impaired); Vittorio Scotto di CarloRegional Delegate of EISI – Italian Inclusive Sports Body and of Asd Baskinsieme; Frederick Calvin, Territorial President of Campania UISP. In closing, the awards ceremony of Peppe Puttini with a musical participation of Majorino Buonocore.

“A project that will involve children and young people with and without disabilities, offering the possibility over these three days to choose and practice sports for free – explained the city councilor Rossella Staiano -. For our Administration it is essential that people with disabilities can access a series of opportunities to practice the sports offered by the associations of our City, which have so much to offer on a sporting and human level”.

“One of the objectives we set ourselves was to try to network – stated the mayor Giuseppe Aiello during the press conference -. We are working on it every day, we are succeeding thanks also to the sensitivity of the associations. The fact that with this event we managed to unite not only our realities but also neighboring ones, demonstrates our peculiarity in welcoming and contributing to making Vico Equense a city that makes sport and inclusion its watchwords. Vico Equense is a city that thrives on sport and has numerous examples of professionalism and quality. Thanks to this event our city will become a showcase of sport and aggregation. A project for which we have worked hard and we can’t wait to reap the fruits”, concluded the mayor.
