Stan Wawrinka and Viktorija Golubic Making Their Mark at the Olympics

In 2008, Stan Wawrinka won the Olympic gold medal in tennis doubles with Roger Federer in Beijing. In 2012, he led the Swiss delegation as flag bearer in London.

Now, twelve years later, Wawrinka, now 39, is coming to his third Games after missing Rio and Tokyo due to injury. Although the Lausanne native, currently number 98 in the world, missed out on direct qualification, he was awarded one of two wildcards reserved for former Grand Slam and Olympic champions.

Viktorija Golubic is also taking part. The 31-year-old from Zurich also narrowly missed out on direct qualification for Paris 2024 via the WTA rankings as current No. 69, but has now moved up into the field of 56 players because a maximum of four players per nation are allowed to start and because some better-ranked athletes have cancelled.

For Golubic, it will be her second Olympic Games – in 2021 in Tokyo, she won silver in the doubles together with Belinda Bencic.
