Of course, there is nothing wrong with spending a few days in Mallorca in June. There are many leisure activities to choose from. And sunshine is guaranteed. But in Jonas Hofmann’s case, the German national player, newly crowned champion and DFB Cup winner with Bayer Leverkusen, would probably not have minded working in his home country these days. But hey, Julian Nagelsmann decided otherwise. And so Hofmann is chilling in the stands at the Mallorca Country Club.

Another, even more prominent football professional also watched the meeting between Gael Monfils and Dominic Thiem live on Monday evening: Mario Götze, the winning goal scorer in the 2014 World Cup final, in which Germany beat Argentina 1-0.

Two other tennis fans always seem to be on the winning side: pop icon Dieter Bohlen and Virgin boss Richard Branson. The latter at least has a close connection to tennis: every year Branson organizes the Necker Cup, a charity tournament that takes place on Necker Island and Moskito Island. This event has been held since 2012 – and the participants to date include such illustrious names as Martina Navratilova, Rafael Nadal, Boris Becker, Ana Ivanovic, Kim Clijsters and many, many more.

For the average fan, however, it is much cheaper to watch world-class tennis at the Mallorca Championships. As a couple, you have to shell out more than 60,000 US dollars to watch the Necker Cup. If you want to take part in the ProAm, you have to put more than 100,000 US dollars on the table.
