Steven Nelson Announces Retirement from NFL After Nine Year Career

HOUSTON — The cornerback Steven Nelson withdraws from the NFL.

Steven Nelson signaled KPRC-TV on Houston his decision on Sunday after helping the Houston Texans to make the playoffs in 2023, when he ranked second in interceptions (four) and pass deflections (12) on the team. In the Texans’ victory against the Cleveland Brownsmade an interception in the third quarter and returned it for a touchdown to give the Texans a 31-14 lead.

“After thinking about it and having some conversations with my family, I think it’s time to take a step back and spend more time with my family,” Nelson said. “We’re expecting a newborn next month and I wanted to dedicate all my time and energy to that and various off-the-field businesses. I’m extremely proud of what I was able to do in football.”
