Aryna Sabalenka arrived at Wimbledon 2024 as one of the main candidates for the title. The Belarusian player was leaving the Berlin tournament that she played on grass. Now, on the Media Day of the London Grand Slam, Aryna honestly comments on how she arrives at the big event on grass.
“I’m very happy to be back, it’s an amazing place,” Aryna began. “What happened to me at Roland Garros was a very tough experience, I suffered a lot. Afterwards it took me about five or six days to recover. I took a lot of medicine to help my stomach. It was quite hard. It took me six days until I started training again.”

With that stomach problem now behind her, physical problems came for Sabalenka. “I’m not 100% fit physically. We’re doing everything we can to make sure we play the first match here, but no, I’m not 100% ready,” explains the Belarusian. “It’s really frustrating. I’ve never been through a serious injury. It’s already a lot to go through now. The last month has been very challenging, I’ve been struggling with a lot of pain. It’s a mental battle as well, you have to find the positive side.”

“I think tennis is reaching the next level, everyone can beat everyone. We can all win a Grand Slam, the level has increased. It’s a really crazy thing to think about, there is no favorite except for Iga, especially over clay. In general there is no one who dominates the circuit so much.
