In the midst of an authentic and sensational sporting event, the Lima 2024 Junior Pan American Cup was successfully held, with the participation of the best exponents of continental judo at the Videna Sports Center 1. In the tournament that successfully closed the Pan American Tour, Brazil won the largest number of gold medals with a total of ten, and representatives from Mexico, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Paraguay and Uruguay also shined on the tatami.

The Peruvian Driulys Rivas (-52kg) closed an excellent participation, beating Constanza San Martin from Chile and the Brazilian Mariana Rocha in the preliminary round to finally win the bronze medal.

Camila Figueroa (-78kg) won the gold medal and the national judokas Franco Baltazar (-66kg), Driulys Rivas (-52kg), Marian Flores (-57kg) and Frank Mayer (-100kg) won the silver medal. Meanwhile, Javier Saavedra (-73kg) and Hilary Lam (-63kg) won bronze medals.

A successful Judo Refereeing Seminar was held in the capital as part of the “Panamerican Judo Tour” Lima 2024 at Polideportivo 1 de Legado in Videna. There were 105 participants, including coaches, referees and officials from 18 countries such as Argentina, the United States, Mexico, Honduras, Peru, Costa Rica, Kenya, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Brazil, Canada, El Salvador, Cuba, Chile, Argentina and Guatemala. The Peruvian Judo Sports Federation led by sensei María Martínez thanked all the participants for their commitment and discipline.

Florín Daniel Lascau, former world judo champion and current director of the IJF (International Judo Federation) Refereeing Commission, met in the capital to conduct and lead the Seminar where various combat situations held at major events such as the Tokyo Olympics, the Baku World Championships and the Portugal Grand Slam were visualized and presented.

For Peru, among others, the coaches Angelo Acosta, Yuliana Bolívar, Kenji Castillo, Jesús Gavidia, Dilmer Calle, Vladimir Armenteros and also the brand new international referee Lesly Huamán were present. Among the foreigners who participated in this important Seminar were the referees Leonardo Aguirre (Argentina), Lucas Freitas (Brazil), Jennifer Parker (Canada), Juan Minier (Dominican), Samuel Suyehira, James Sternick (USA), Manuel San Juan (Puerto Rico), Javier Terra (Uruguay), Manuel Larrañaga (Mexico), José Ordóñez (Honduras), among others.

“These are real situations that have occurred at major events and they help us to update and add to our knowledge,” said Sensei Angelo Acosta, one of the 26 Peruvian participants in the Refereeing Course. The event began on Tuesday, June 25 with a marathon session from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and ended on Wednesday, June 26 with the closing ceremony at 8:00 p.m., after an intense day of work.
