Suljovic/Rodriguez confident in World Cup round of 16 – sport.ORF.at

Mensur Suljovic and Rowby-John Rodriguez made it into the round of 16 on Friday at the World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt, the team championship of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). The red-white-red duo followed up their 4-0 opening win against China with a 4-1 victory against Guyana, thus securing group victory. Their next opponent on Saturday is Taiwan, which surprisingly won against Ireland.

Germany, Northern Ireland, Belgium and Australia are also among those who have made it to the knockout phase without any problems. However, the final stop was for 70-year-old darts legend Paul “The Singapore Slinger” Lim, who had competed for the Asian city-state together with Harith Lim.

Top nations advance to the round of 16

The top-seeded nations England, Wales, the Netherlands and Scotland will enter the action in the round of 16. England will be represented by world champion Luke Humphries and Michael “Bullyboy” Smith. Vice world champion and darts prodigy Luke Littler will be missing because only the two top-ranked players from each country in the PDC rankings are nominated.

Defending champions Wales will be represented by Jonny Clayton, who will play with Jim Williams because Gerwyn Price had to withdraw due to illness. The Netherlands will be represented for the first time in three years by Michael van Gerwen, who will be partnered by Danny Noppert. Scotland will be sending out veterans and crowd favourites Gary Anderson and Peter Wright.
