Superbike, the results of Misano: Razgatlioglu master of the paddock

Toprak beats Ducati in his home race, crowning his dream of a hat-trick. Bulega super, Bautista human, Petrucci stoic. Let’s take stock of the Misano Superbike round

It seems like everything revolves around him. The doubts of the off-season, the tests before the Romagna weekend, the high and low speed traverses that invade social media, the chatter of a future in MotoGP should BMW make the big leap. And, clearly, also the general classification which now sees him in the lead. The paddock of Superbike is in the hands of Toprak Razgatlioglu not only for the results he is achieving, but for the hype he causes with his every move.

The Italian public praises Toprak

The key lies in the last post-race interview of the weekend, the one after the victory in Race 2, in which he declared: “I didn’t win three races, we won three races”, praising the work of your team. This is what is captivating about Toprak: the fact that he is a true phenomenon on the track, but also an educated man off it, with that humility which, despite time and successes, never fades. Also the Italian public praised him at the Misano weekend, despite the prank played on Ducati in the highly anticipated home stage. Rival drivers and experts all agree that the #54 is scary.

Bulega never ceases to amaze

Razgatlioglu and BMW are from world title and for Alvaro Bautista, struggling with the additional weight and a less than total feeling with the bike, it won’t be easy to defend the crown. The next round will take place at Donington, a track historically favorable to the Turk and very complex for the Panigale. However, Ducati has an ace up its sleeve, namely Nicolò Bulega, again very fast at Misano. Bent only by Toprak, the reigning Supersport champion never ceases to amaze, putting the wheels in front of Bautista consistently. Even the weak point of the winter tests, i.e. the performance on used tyre, seems to be a problem overcome and the crazy performance it is maintaining almost makes us forget that it is a rookie.

Petrucci is the hero of the weekend

The other positive notes of the Romagna round come from the consistency of Andrea Locatelli and take steps forward Axel Bassani, who is learning the language of a still fast Kawasaki (as also demonstrated by Alex Lowes). Some signs of life also come from Iker Lecuona with the official Honda. In reverse, Andrea Iannone he ran into a complicated weekend, fighting in Race 2 with an increasingly dull Jonathan Rea. The title of hero of the weekend, however, is all of Danilo Petruccistoic in completing the task despite the excruciating pain in his right shoulder: the comeback on Sunday afternoon and the consequent sixth place finish were almost unbelievable.
