Suriname Dominates World Cup Qualifiers with Victories Over Saint Vincent and Anguilla

Suriname did exactly what it had to do in the first two World Cup qualifiers: win. After the win over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Anguilla was now tied to the victory cart. On the island of the eel, Stanley Menzo’s team won 0-4.

Only San Marino is below Anguilla in the FIFA rankings. The second-worst country in the world coincidentally won on penalties in March, but the last victory before that was about 14 years ago. So it was not exciting against Suriname. Menzo’s team was found around the home team’s sixteen for almost the entire 90 minutes.

On a field where the average cow would have difficulty grazing properly, Suriname took the lead after ten minutes. After a nice action by Jaden Montnor, it was Tyrone Conrad who tapped the ball. The former top scorer of the Montenegrin competition thus scored his first goal for Suriname: 0-1.

Her Scipio

The most talked about man on the field was undoubtedly Aedan Scipio. Reportedly the footballer with the longest hair ever in the history of international football. The Anguilla midfielder had to wear a hair band around his stomach to keep his dreads in the right place.

By the way, it is great that Scipio receives more attention than referee Hakeem Harvey. The referee missed two clear red cards in the first half alone. First of all when Conrad was torpedoed by Scipio in the box. Then when 40-year-old goalkeeper Jelanie Lawrence misplayed the ball and clearly made hands outside the box.

After the break, the rondo around the sixteen-meter area continued happily. The only thing Suriname can blame itself for is that the team did not score more often. Whoever did that in the second half was substitute Shaquille Pinas. With a shot from about twenty meters he scored the second goal after an hour of football: 0-2.

Good debut Conrad

It didn’t stop there. The third hit was made according to the same recipe as the first. Once again it was Montnor who freed himself and was able to provide a cross. Once again it was Conrad who was able to finish. His second goal in his first international match: 0-3.

For Steve Austin it was a match to quickly forget. The substitute unfortunately got the ball against him in the 87th minute, which ultimately led to his team winning 0-4.

With six points from two games, Menzo has started the World Cup qualification well. Suriname will play its next international match on September 5. Neighboring country Guyana is the opponent in the CONCACAF Nations League.
