On the night of this Wednesday to Thursday (around 2 a.m. in Switzerland), Kyshawn George will have his eyes fixed on Adam Silver’s lips. The NBA president will call one by one the 30 lucky winners of the first round of the 2024 Draft. The event will take place at the Barclay Center, the Brooklyn Nets’ home stadium.
The 20-year-old Romand could then become the third Swiss to play in the NBA, after Thabo Sefolosha (2006) and Clint Capela (2014). “I have no reason to stress, I am in the best possible situation. I’m going to get drafted, that’s almost certain, and I’m not thinking about the 2nd round. So we’ll have to make the most of it, because it’s something we’ll only experience once.”
If Kyshawn George is so confident, it’s because he will be seated in the Green Room, the VIP area at the foot of the stage reserved for the 25 best hopefuls. “I have the right to six people at my table,” the Valaisan tells us. In addition to my parents and my brother, there will be my NBA agent and two childhood friends from Monthey.
Encouraging first season
The franchises did not wait for this gala evening to discover this talented player who concluded an encouraging first season in the NCAA, the US university system, with the Miami Hurricanes (8 points average, 41% at 3 points).
Kyshawn George toured the United States to meet with the teams: Sacramento, Portland, San Antonio, Orlando, Miami, Toronto, Milwaukee, Utah and Washington. “I went there to do training but not only that. In the morning, they sent me my boarding pass, my calendar for the day and a car to the hotel.”
