Tatami: The Political Thriller of a Young Iranian Judoka’s Fight for Gold

The young and ambitious Iranian judoka Leila travels to the Judo World Championships in Tbilisi with her coach Maryam. Her biggest dream: to bring home the first gold medal for Iran. When it becomes clear during the competition that she could face a competitor from Israel, the Tehran regime becomes nervous.

To avoid the humiliation of a possible defeat, Leila is given an ultimatum: she must fake an injury and withdraw from the competition. If she resists and continues to fight, she will be considered a traitor. Leila must make a difficult decision that affects not only herself, but also her family in Iran and her trainer, whose freedom and safety are also at stake.

The highly exciting political thriller is directed by Guy Nattiv and Zar Amir. TATAMI is the first feature film with an Iranian-Israeli co-director. The successful actress Amir (awarded “Best Actress” in Cannes for “Holy Spider”) is making her directorial debut with Tatami, for Nattiv (“Golda”) it is already the sixth feature film, he won an Oscar in 2019 for his short film “Skin”.
