The Telekom Baskets fans said goodbye to their team with the club anthem and lots of love before the summer break, despite the 0-3 defeat after games in the playoff quarter-finals against Alba Berlin. Goosebumps-inducing atmosphere at Bonn’s Hardtberg – and the season had been anything but smooth after the triumph in the 2023 Champions League, the first title in the club’s history.

Head coach Roel Moors (45), who played his first season in Bonn, in the Baskets podcast: “Are you satisfied with the team’s performance? Yes and no. We did some good things, but unfortunately I felt that there was a lack of consistency. The season could have lasted a little longer. But we don’t need to look at the series against Alba, we need to ask ourselves why we didn’t finish fourth or fifth.”
Problem: Defense!
The Bonn defense was also hopelessly overwhelmed against Alba. A problem that accompanied the Baskets throughout the season. Moors: “I would have liked us to have shown a little more stability defensively. That is also the reason why we did not end up higher in the table. We had the second best offensive rating, but we never found consistency defensively. That was a problem.”

Bonn therefore only finished in 7th place and had to play against Berlin in the playoffs. The end of the line was in the quarter-finals. In the Champions League, the completely new team delivered a solid season, but there too they were knocked out in the quarter-finals. Just like in the BBL Cup. Bonn had to play against Bayern and lost after a great fight.

Nevertheless, Moors is not dissatisfied. The coach: “The chemistry in the team was relatively good from the start. The best thing for chemistry is of course victories and that didn’t really work out at the beginning. But generally we had a good group.”

Conclusion: After expectations and pressure had increased due to the Champions League title, and almost the entire team including coach Tuomas Iisalo had moved to Paris, Bonn had a difficult year. In the end, the team had a decent record, which the fans also acknowledged with their chants at the end of the season against Berlin.
Sports manager Daniel Seffern: “The hall was sold out for every weekend game and also several times during the week. We were very impressed by that. We are very grateful for that and it gives us a lot of strength to carry on and attack again next year.”
