Tennis: Djokovic announces quick comeback

Tennis

After his knee operation, Novak Djokovic has declared that he wants to return to the tennis tour as soon as possible. “I will do my best to return to the court healthy and fit as soon as possible,” the 37-year-old Serb wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday. The 24-time Grand Slam winner suffered a meniscus injury in his right knee in his round of 16 match at the French Open and subsequently had to cancel his quarterfinal against Casper Ruud.

Djokovic recently had to make some tough decisions because he tore his medial meniscus. He ultimately decided to undergo surgery and is “happy to tell you that the operation went well,” said the Serb, who wants to work hard on his comeback: “My love for this sport is strong and the desire to compete at the highest level is what keeps me going.” Djokovic also thanked the medical team and the fans for their “overwhelming support.”

However, it seems very doubtful whether the seven-time Wimbledon champion will even make it to the grass classic from July 1 to 14. After that, Djokovic could return to Roland Garros, where the Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 27 to August 4.

Repeated physical difficulties

Djokovic won three of four majors last year, but has had some difficulties this year, including physical difficulties, and has not yet won a title. At the Australian Open, he lost to eventual winner Jannik Sinner in the semifinals; the Italian will replace him as the new world number one on Monday.
