Tennis in Paris Sinner follows Alcaraz into the quarterfinals of the French Open

At the French Open, title contenders Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz won their round of 16 matches. Two other tennis stars now want to follow suit.

Title candidate Jannik Sinner has advanced to the quarterfinals of the French Open in Paris. The 22-year-old tennis star from Italy beat Frenchman Corentin Moutet 2:6, 6:3, 6:2, 6:1 after some initial difficulties, and celebrated his eleventh victory in a row on the Grand Slam stage. The Australian Open winner’s next opponent is Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria, who beat Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz 7:6 (7:5), 6:4, 7:6 (7:3).

Sinner initially had great problems with the unconventional game of the Frenchman, who, in addition to his dangerous spin forehand, repeatedly threw drop shots and occasionally served from below. After losing serve to make it 0-1 in the second set, the favorite recovered and played with much more pressure and dominance. Moutet, on the other hand, was waning, and even the support of the fans on Court Philippe Chatrier did not help him to find his rhythm again.

Previously, Spanish tennis pro Carlos Alcaraz had also made it to the quarterfinals. The 21-year-old beat Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 6:3, 6:3, 6:1. In the round of the best eight, the world number three will face Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek also defeated Italian Matteo Arnaldi 3:6, 7:6 (7:4), 6:2, 6:2 after initial difficulties.

Despite their recent injuries, Alcaraz and Sinner are among the four major title contenders alongside German tennis pro Alexander Zverev and Serbian world number one Novak Djokovic. Zverev and Djokovic are back in action today.
