At first, Andy Murray was seen by the English public as the grumpy Scotsman who the English only saw as one of their own when he won. And his saying that he was rooting for Scotland and all of England’s opponents in football didn’t help. It was only when he cried after losing the 2012 Wimbledon final against Roger Federer that he won the hearts of all Brits. In 2013, he redeemed the nation by winning the first Wimbledon title for a British man in 77 years. He was knighted by Prince Charles and made a name for himself as an advocate for female tennis professionals.
